In 1978 I began my adventure in the "sculpted bread dough medium of the day" with a variety of my original caroling faces. Later, I began to design a wider variety of pieces and shifted to "Sculpey" modeling clay in place of the fragile and perishable bread dough. I now use either Premo! or Fimo for all my ornaments.
All clay is mixed and blended to achieve many custom colors. Infusions are added as well and mica powders for different effects. I start with a basic shape and apply various components and appliques. Often items are baked in stages to guarantee their shape and cohesion. After baking, a soft lacquer is applied as the finishing touch. All designs are original and created only by me. Ornaments are titled and usually available for one season except for a few popular favorites.
I have had no formal art instruction, but have relied on my God-given talent and imagination, combined with observation and experimentation. Family life has also been a profound influence and inspiration. My studio is located in my home in rustic Cave Creek, Arizona. I share my life with my wonderful husband Eric of 29 years and our six children (yes, all ours!) Jon, Danielle, Erica, Ryan, Virginia and Kurt.
I feel blessed to be given the gift of creating Christmas ornaments for the last 30 years. Many of my loyal customers keep the tradition alive for their children and grandchildren, of which I am truly grateful!
May we all remember the time of Christmas and "our Creator" to whom all the glory is given.
P.S. That is our beloved Chauncey. We are sad to say he recently passed after 13 awesome years. His companion and fellow Scottie, Miss B, is now part of our family.
